I used the Scrapbook in pre-OS X quite a bit; never really used the old Notepad. I'm wondering what others are using now to take their place (if anything).

After trying a few things when 10.0 was released over a year ago, I settled on Drop Drawers (http://www.sigsoftware.com/dropdrawers/index.html). It's easy to scrapbook text and urls, easy to edit them, and easy to access with the various tabs. It also provides a quick launcher tab option, which I don't use, but which I suppose comes in handy. I even use it for To Do lists by keeping a text window open in a tab and just updating, as needed.

Very handy!

I use BBEdit now instead of the Notepad. I just leave a document open, and it is a quick place to drag text, URL's, jot notes to myself, make myself sandwiches, etc.

I never really used the scrapbook, I've always just dragged pictures to the desktop or an open finder window. Thing is, I would probably use the scrapbook in OS X, if I could drag pictures to it's dock icon and have them be stored that way.

in os 9, i was addicted to ScrapitPro. the author keeps promising to carbonize it, but in the meantime i've been using:

- Notes. it's freeware. it's got a beautiful clean interface. it's amazingly perfect for small collections of clips (under 20 - 30). i have it running 24/7.

- DEVONThink. it's shareware, and i haven't paid yet. so far, it's the best thing i've found for archiving lots and lots of text clips. but it's really not perfect, and i'm hoping something better will come along soon.
