Asar's Hogwasherv3.0 has just been released as a Carbon application. Looks and behaves exactly like the 2.6 version under MacOS 9 (I haven't even tried it yet under 10.1) except for added support for yEnc which was previously absent.

This is very good news for Hogwasher users since it means not having to reenter subscriptions and rules in some other program (not to mention filters, which, like filters in Eudora, can take a long time to establish and would not necessarily translate into settings used by any other program if you had to switch).

There's a nontrivial upgrade fee ($25) to what is a pretty expensive piece of shareware ($49), but I really like Hogwasher so I'm very glad to see this.

The list of regularly used apps in 8/9 that I would unhappily have to abandon in order to use 10 is still shrinking and for me it's becoming a very short list :) (Hey SoundApp! You're next! Right??)

More info: Works in MacOS X exactly as it does under MacOS 9, very transparently cross-platform. Since Hogwasher keeps all its configuration, preferences, & downloads files and folders right there in the applications folder, there's no making aliases and copying them to somewhere in /Users or /Library and no filling in of redundant information in a System Preference pane -- a rather System 6 approach to doing things that could turn off owners of a true multi-user box but which works just fine for me on my single-user PowerBook. Binary is a one-size-fits-all Carbon app rather than separate copies for X and 9 (a la FileMaker, GraphicConverter, etc) so neither platform gets plagued by the "damn, it's trying to launch the wrong @$#! version" bugs.

I probably should have started this thread off as a poll, e.g., "What newsgroup client do you use?" or "Rating the MacOS X Newsgroup Readers".

AHunter, go ahead and start over with the poll, if you want. You can then transfer these posts into your new thrread, and I'll delete this one when you're done.
