Hi,
I use my iPod to sync my home folders at work and at home. Its great as within 30 seconds my home folders are synced and I have a backup in my pocket at all times.
on occasions I want to use windows computers and access files on my iPod. Will formatting it for windows have any negative effect. does Speed, reliability, corruption anything get effected?
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

It will work fine. It might be a tad slower, but it it shouldn't be noticeable.

I'd say it's a bad idea since you're syncing data on Macs all the time. If you format it for Windows, you will loose any resource forks from your files. This could cause complications for you.

I know 2 people who have pc formatted pods. The only issue I have seen is that they are much slower when accessed by mac.

I tried this and it just wasn't the same, it wouldn't show up in the finder as an iPod but just a disk image.

I have seen that its a bit slower. But it seems to be that there is not inherant data risk. I use it alot for and have it sync my work and home computers and dont want to risk losing any data.
Also, I think if you set a windows iPod to a mac computer the ipod image returns to the disk image. thanks for the 'hints'.
Im still not sure if ill do it. I hate PC computers and everything they stand for! :D

I have a pc formatted ipod, and it has the original icon, but then it sometimes could change itself, that doesnt bother me cos everything is fine when i use my ipod
