NO NEED TO POST TO VOTE!
I have 11 items in my dock... :\ Not including the Finder or the Trash icons. Just curious as to if people fill up their docks are leave them empty. 5 of my items are folders that store aliases to other programs, etc... Make the dock a lot less cluttered and a lot prettier. :\
Anyways, let's hear it!

I use DragThing as a launcher, so I keep very few things in the dock ... System Prefs, Mail, Terminal, and (for now) Medal of Honor, since I quit all apps before luanching it :-).

Darn you and your Medal of Honor! I'll own it one day... :( Now that I have a computer that can run it! Yippie!

Ok, I've just got to ask... Will any of you with more than 20 items in your dock post a picture of your dock? I personally don't see how the dock can be useable with that many items in it... just too cluttered... *shrug*
If not, whatever, just a question.

I'm up to 51 items in my dock. I have DragThing set up, but I don't like using it as much as I like using the dock. The dock is more convenient in that I don't have to click any tabs to find what I want. I just move my mouse to the bottom of the screen, find what I want, and click. But since there are even more apps, files and folders I want instant access to than what I can put on my dock, I sometimes have to go to DragThing.
Here's a pic of my dock. I have a 19" monitor, using 1152 x 870 resolution. I have magnification turned off in my dock.

Some of the duplicate icons are from having both, OS X and Classic, versions of apps. When a new OS X version of an app first comes out, I wait until I've used it for a while before throwing out the Classic version. I'm also hanging on to my older version of apps like Photoshop because not all of the plug-ins I use have OS X versions released so I sometimes have to go back to the Classic version to run those plug-ins.

I keep 3 non-running items in my dock. Sometimes as much as 5. I have folder with aliases to my most used apps. I gave that one a pretty icon. I just click and hold on the docked folder and up pops a menu for lauching those most used apps. I also have an alias for my OS X drive and the desktop. Same menu feature. The desktop folder icon can be a real time saver. No more closing windows to get at items on the desktop. I also use Finder to lauch less used apps. And my dock is clutter free. Nice.

Here's a pic of mine (sorry for the width;) ):

I don't use magnification, and don't use auto-hide. While it's a big crowded, I use it more from muscle memory than anything else -- I know where things out of habit.
My Jaguar dock looks a bit different, since the minimized windows of the Finder are distinct from the minimized windows of other apps.
I tend to use LaunchBar to launch any apps that aren't in my Dock :)

I find it very usefull and not cluttered. I have it seperated by app type and colors and I find it easy to rememeber...

I have 46 items in my dock now. :D It looks a lot nicer being small with a little magnification... Goes across the whole screen so it takes up less space. :D

Not counting the Finder or Trash, i have 21 items. Usually the meter (far right app) isn't running, though.
I have them roughly organized as:
internet | unix | odds & ends | games | dev

As long as my computer is on, you should be able to get to this picture.

Zero. I killed the Dock.

Wow. Counted 77 apps including the trash, magnification on low. I have grown to like the dock (obviously) except when scrolling through an acrobat PDF's edges close to it.

Zero. Aside from Finder and Trash. Auto-hidden and magnification on (from smallest to half-size)
I can see people who rely on the mouse a lot using the Dock or similar tool as an app launcher, whereas those who rely on the keyboard more (me!) use something else (LaunchBar!!).
I use the Dock as a visual aid for application switching (cmd-Tab) and for application event notification (AOL-IM).
