While trying to back up my iTunes library to a firewire drive, I messed it up.
So I decided to
(i) delete iTunes
(ii) delete the entire Music directory
(iii) use senuti to copy everything from ipod back to the hard disk.

So far so good. Now I have all the songs back in the Music directory. I thought I would then install iTunes and rebuild the library. Well, i downloaded the dmg file and started the installation, accepted the license, but the files to be installed are greyed out. I can't get iTunes to install. Now I have no itunes on my Powerbook! Is there some file I have to delete before the installation?

Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My friend had the same issue once... I just archived my iTunes application, sent it to him over AIM (took a few minutes) and viola',it worked. If you have multiple machines then you can do it like that... Otherwise, contact me on aim and I'll send it to you:

Actually, I think that all you have to do is remove or delete the relevant receipts in /Library/Receipts. In effect, these tell the system you already have version x.xx of iTunes installed, so don't bother installing it again unless it's an upgrade.

You may have one to two receipts (iTunes.pkg and iTunes4.pkg) in /Library/Receipts. Move those out of the directory (say, to the Desktop). Do NOT delete or modify any of the other receipts, just to be safe. Then try installing iTunes again.
