Has anyone seen or heard of this before. I dont want to have to send it back but its getting silly when Im driving along and every 30 seconds I have to hit play or I select a track i really want and it just plays 5 seconds getting em all ready to listen to it and then it skips to the next track!!!
Slightly annoying so if anyone can help it would be brilliant!

Sounds like it could be a bad unit. Few questions:
- Is it random or always happens 5 seconds into a song? Certain songs?
- Do you turn off the input using the slide lock? Vibration might trigger one of the buttons to go off if it is sensitive.
- Does the behavior change with the power source? Does it happen when just running from battery? Do you have an auto dock or something? A bad power cable used then running could cause the drive to go undervoltage and reset. Similarly a loose dock/power cable could cause the ipod to reset or go into sync mode.
- What is the source of the mpegs? Does it happen on every track or just certain ones? I had some tracks from an audio tape (book on tape) I ripped on a Linux box and one of the tracks would cause the ipod to freeze. Converted the track to AAC and the problem went away.

I have a 40GB iPod and it's been working properly ever since I got it in 7 months ago.
Now when I play tracks it skips tracks over and over again and eventually stays on one tracks and plays. If I choose a partricular album, it will skip all the tracks and not play anything.
Any advice is welcome.

I've had this with a 40GB 4G iPod and a 4GB 2G iPod mini. It randomly skips tracks after the first 5/6 seconds, and if you backtrack to the song it plays it fully.
Its just totally random behaviour on my two iPods, and I haven't heard it for a while.
