I know there are a variety of programs to capture any audio played on your computer and save it. Being lazy and forgetful, I wonder if there's a more-automated way to have some of your favorite internet radio stations captured to your iPod. It should also maintain better quality if you're not decoding/re-encoding the audio.

You mean other than with PodCast? Check out:

Yeah, I'm looking to save a few hours of regular radio streams, not podcasts. To play in the car, on the bike, in a plane...etc when I'm not connected to the internet.

Streamripper seems to get me half way there, then I can just copy the streams to the iPod. Not fully automatic, but pretty good. Thanks.

You can create a folder action to add new files to itunes.

Good tip. I haven't had time yet to learn what folder actions can do for me.

iFill (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/ifill/) looks promising, if it really works.

Wow, that is *exactly* what I was looking for.

Streamripper does something different, but also valuable. It breaks up the stream into individual songs (with all the fair use implications), and adds the tags if they are sent with the stream. Basically a very advanced version of recording FM radio to cassette.

Oh, too bad this doesn't have some sort of "VCR" scheduling capability. I would love to set it to record my favorite streaming radio show while I'm at work, then put it onto my iPod under the "Podcast" section.

Right now for automatically scheduling my recordings, I'm using WM Recorder along with WM VCR. (WM standing for "Windows Media" since it's a .asx windows media stream - ick.)

Yeah, yeah I know its not really a podcast but that's a closer category than putting it into the "Music" section with an "Artist" and "Album" tag.

it's not free, but i've been pretty happy with this program, using it to do exactly what you're talking about: record radio, etc, and listen to it later. it imports files into itunes automatically, and you can schedule recordings using ical. check it out: http://www.bitcartel.com/irecordmusic/

hope that helps :)
