iTunes, out of memory after update.

After I've updated Tiger to 10.4.2 I can't open iTunes. I keep gettin' an out of memory error!

Any ideas? I've checked the activity monitor etc. and there should be enough.

How much free space is there on your hard drive?

Can you tell me what the message really says? - I've never seen an out of memory error with any recent version of OS X - except for messages referring to the startup disk space low.

It says:

The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available.

Before I get this message I have to agree to the new software license agreement, because it has been updated. This I choose Agree to, and then the error-message pops up.

I've tried every single of my app's and it's only iTunes who won't open. Even Photoshop opens without any problems.

Are you using Classic for any reason?
Do you get the same message after you restart your computer, and try iTunes before launching anything else?

I'm using iTunes 4.9.
I have tried to restart several times and I do not use Classic or anything else.

It started with the error after I ran Software Update in Mac OS X.

Applications:Utilities: Disk Utility
Click on hard drive and then click Repair Disk Permissions. You may also want to startup from the installer cd, run Disk Utility from the Menu and click Repair Disk.

I had the same problems after updating iTunes, but have found the reason of a error quickly enough.
Try to setup in System Preferences the basic language English, and then to remove from resources of iTunes all languages but not English after that it is possible to try to start...

I have a Mac Mini with 256MB RAM and currently 4.7GB of free HD and OS Tiger. I used to run iTunes with no problems at all, since I bought the computer about four months ago, until todays update. When I try to launch iTunes it pops a small window with the icon of a red exclamation mark and only an OK button, with the message: The iTunes could not be opened. There is not enough memory available.
I've tried "Repair disk permissions" with the disk utility, and I've tried closing all applications, for trying iTunes alone. I've tried restarting, and logging different users.

Launch "Activity Monitor" (under /Applications/Utilities) and see what is taking up memory.

But also look at what software you might have installed that has system-wide effect. E.g. virus checkers, disk-checkers, system "enhancements", etc.
And disconnect all 3rd-party peripherals while troubleshooting.

That isn't enough RAM, so your system needs to use more hard disk space than normal because of it. While 4.7GB may seem like a lot of extra disk space, it isn't. Add more RAM and in the meantime clear a few gigs more disk space.

Are you by anychance using Digidesign?

If so, update your CoreAudioDrivers to the newest version:

Got the same message and had plenty of space and memory...(tiger 10.4.2)

I updated itunes to the latest version (6.0.1) using the software update
and the problem was resolved...

I guess that's apples way of letting you know they want you to upgrade!?

I have the same problem. However, I know it's a problem with iTunes because I have 1.5 GB of memory installed (with 1.08 GB free) and 40 GB of unused hard disk space. I tried restarting, I even installed 10.4.3 hoping it would do the trick, but no. It's iTunes 6.01 or whatever the newest version is.

Just like Wampiro, I get "The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available."

I've repaired the permissions, updated the prebinding and performed 'sudo periodic'. It just won't open. As a last resort, I even moved all my music files out of the music folder so iTunes would have started up without having to load any music, but it still wouldn't work.

I've exhausted all the ideas that have come to my mind, anyone have any others?

I had the same exact frustrating memory problem with iTunes6.0.1. I finally got it to work by re-installing iTunes after downloading it from versiontracker.

I had this issue with iTunes 7.0.1 after upgrading/restarting UNO (unified look application).

The solution is indeed to reinstall iTunes. You can download the .dmg file from the official site or from versionTracker for example.

However there is one issue: the installer won't let you install anything because iTunes 7.0.1 is already installed; all options are dimmed in the installer, and even removing iTunes stuff won't solve this.
And the same goes if you try the installer from an older version.

Basically you need to remove all iTunes*.pkg files in /Library/Receipts and then the installer will allow you to reinstall iTunes.

Running the itunes binary file into terminal, arrows this:
