Ok, so my brother got a Free iPod Mini from Apple with his new Powerbook (after rebate). He is giving it to me and has already cut off the UPC code off the box... My brother already had a silver mini so he decided to get me a blue one, I hate the blue (its rather girlie). Think I swing up to an Apple store and exchange it for another color?

Especially if the UPC code is cut off the box, there's no way.
By the way, returning the item could result in the rebate getting rejected, so I'd just hold onto it.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.... What about taking it apart and painting it? Anyone do that yet?

I think that would be difficult to do and get good results.
It might be easier for you to just get a sex change operation.

Yeah, I don't think paint sticks to anodized aluminum very well. It'll have the same general quality as car exteriors that are refinished with spray paint.

If you really don't want it, you can send it to me. I'll give you, like, five dollars for it. :D

I'll trade my 2nd gen 20Gb iPod even. But the battery is down to about 6 hours or so. I'll even throw in a new battery. That's the kind of guy I am. :)
It even comes with a non glare stainless finish.

If you are really determined, anodizing can be removed with fine steel wool or similar abrasive and some elbow grease. However, aluminum powder is decidedly NOT good for the interior of the device, so I would disassemble it first. If you strip it down to the aluminum shell you can also get it anodized/airbrushed at a local shop.
And there's always adhesive vinyl......
