I am planning on setting up a wireless network at home that includes 2 laptop PCs and 2 Macs (1 iMac and 1 iBook both running OS X). What I am looking to do is be able to connect via wireless ethernet and be able to browse the internet and access resources on all the machines. I have looked at the Airport and the Linksys Wireless DSL Router. I am leaning towards the Linksys because it is about half the price.

Has anyone out there set up Macs and PCs via a Linksys or NetGear wireless router? The configuration I would like is...

-Wireless DSL Router connected to DSL and all machines
-iBook connect to router via Airport Card
-Imac connect to router via ethernet cable
-1 PC laptop connect to router via CISCO aironet wireless card
-1 PC connect to router via ethernet cable

Does anyone know if this config is possible and if the Linksys router is compatible with the airport cards?

yep. that config is possible.

i hauled my TiPB w/airport card over to a colleague's house who has a linksys wireless router.

i didn't consult him, just fired up the TiPB, set it to airport and it saw and connected to his net lickity-split. made my nipples tingle.

Great, I'll give it a try! I shouldn't have any problems configuring the Linksys, I suppose, as I see it is done through a web browser.

Thanks for the help!

yeah, you'd think you wouldn't have any problems, but plan on it anyhow :D

Thanks to everyone for the info! I went out and picked up an SMC Barricade (it was $50 cheaper than the Linksys and supported the same standards, so why not!) and successfully connected all machines. I got the iBook up and running with the Airport card and my PC laptops with the CISCO aironet cards... the iMac is plugged directly into the router and was used to configure all the settings via the SMC browser interface. The SMC is serving out IPs via DHCP and routing everything to the internet without a hitch! Now to start port forwarding, filtering and setting up a DMZ!

Thanks again!
