I have 3 Macs running OS X, 10.3.4 in an ethernet network with a bunch of OS 9.2.2 Macs, several Win XPs, and a Win 2000 file server running Mac Services. Two of the 10.3.4 Macs cannot see all the files in a given folder on the server but the 3rd 10.3.4 Mac can see all files. The files that are not appearing on those 2 10.3.4 Macs are Stuff-It files created on a G5 with 10.3.4 and then copied to the server. I can't find any difference in the setup of the 3 10.3.4 Macs. Anyone have an idea which way to look? TIA

Try looking at the folder in question using commands in Terminal instead of Finder to see if that makes a difference.
Launch the "Terminal" application (under /Applications/Utilities) on one of the Macs having trouble seeing the files and then enter the following commands:
cd /Volumes/name_of_server/name_of_folder
ls -ld
ls -lao

Well... I tried your advice (with my very limited background in Terminal) and although I could change to the directory where the "missing" Stuff-It files are located, I could not get the list command to work, it did not return any results. I was able to change to a directory on my Mac and the list command worked OK. I changed to another directory on the server and the list command did not work so my assumption is that something about the Win 2000 server prevents the list command from working correctly.......

Please give us the list of files visible from the Mac that sees everything, and again from a Mac that doesn't see everything.

Oh brother...I just checked the Mac that was showing all the files in the directory yesterday and today it too shows only the files that the other 2 Macs see. I've now checked the files on the Win server and found they are Hidden. Makes sense, since they don't show on the Macs, now my problem has changed....need to figure out how they are being hidden. Thanks for the help, sorry I had you looking in the wrong direction. There's apparently nothing wrong with the way OS X is seeing the files, as they are invisible, just something off in WHY they are invisible. Although merely making them visible on the WIN server does not make them show on the Macs....

I have a similar issue with a new Win 2003 server. I have a Mac on OS9, which does all my back ups. All my other macs (G5's, G4's) are all on OSX 10.4, and connect to the server via SMB (Browsing the network), whereas the OS9 mac can only see the servers via TCP/IP (Chooser). This has let to an issue where I thought all the files in the back-up directory were backed up by the OS9 mac, BUT IT DIDN'T SEE ALL THE DIRECTORIES! I deleted the contents using the OSX Mac, result is I have deleted files that were not backed up!! Luckily our IT man backs up the WIN2003 server daily, so can retreive the files.
Answer:- GETTING A MAC SERVER!
I am still not sure why TCP viewing differs from SMB viewing, but it does. I dont know if this throws any light on your issue.
Cheers
