can't open photoshop elements 3

Hi , i have a G4 Mac Osx version 10.3.9 and my photoshop has just decided to stop opening. I do not get an error message it just fails to open. I had a look at the crash log report , this is where the report stops at:

Please post the entire reference to the last crash from the crash log - what you've posted isn't useful without it. The log report will begin from the last appearance of the line that begins "********" onwards.

Don't post it - attach it to a post as a text file (NOT as a Word file - the person who may be able to help you may refuse to open Word files from strangers.)

Also tell us what happens when you create a fresh user. Can you open Photoshop 3 then? This will allow you to know whether the problem is specific to a particular user or system wide.

I see the crash is related to web access.
What kind of Internet connection do you have? It seems like you might have a dial-up connection.
Are you connected to the Internet when you run Photoshop Elements?

I have a normal dial-up internet access with Tiscali. I am not on the internet and not even plugged in when i try to open Photoshop.

Try connecting to the Internet before launching Photoshop to see if that makes a difference.

No, still doesn't work when i am connected to the internet, same thing happens the icon jumps up and down a few times in the dock and then nothing happens.

In particular, be sure to try logging in as a different user to see if the problem exists there. (Create a new user via the Accounts preference panel if you only have the one user account so far.)

I also was unable to launch Elements 3.0. It would get as far as "Reading Preferences..." and start to draw a palette on the left hand side of the screen and then crash. Reading the crash report was not helping me.

I first deleted the app and reinstalled it. No change.

Then, I installed it on another Mac running the same version of OS X (10.4.8), intel processor (so Rosetta is involved), and all available patches are applied to both machines. It worked without problems on the other machine.

Then I took the suggestion to create a new account on my machine and try and run it. And, it worked. So, I looked in /Users/test/Library/Preferences and there were only about 12 files there (as opposed to my Prefs folder that has about 150 files in it). About 7 of the twelve files had names starting with com.apple.something. One was called logingwindow.plist.

The rest were:

ACE2Cache
ByHost
GenericData_0M
Opera Preferences
Photoshop Elements 3.0 Paths
Photoshop Elements 3.0 Settings
org.twain.dsm.plist


I dediced to trash all of those files/folders except "ByHost". Once I did that, Elements would successfully launch on my account as well. It was a pain, but at least Elements will now launch. Killing corrupted prefs files feels kinda like the old days of OS 9 and earlier. Wonder if that's Adobe's fault or Apple's?
