Those maniacs over at Unsanity have released a new method for modifying your system, as well as a couple new hacks. They are calling it The Application Enhancer (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/ape/).
The Application Enhancer system allows you to enhance or redefine certain behaviors for applications running on your system. It provides a way for third-party enhancer modules to modify how your applications work.
There are two new haxies using the technology, including Clear Dock and Metalizer.
Any of you adventurous early adopters feel like giving it a whirl?

Sure -- send me a copy of 10.2 and I'll try it out. ;)

They seem to work as advertised.
Not sure of what the conflict is, but with Clear Dock hidden apps don't have the little pointer under them (I have the Jaguar version of TinkerTool installed as well that dims hidden apps, will have to test further).
Regular Cocoa apps (Omniweb) just don't look right with the Brushed Metal appearance. I must admit that i prefer iChat with the normal Aqua appearance though. Although the buttons in the chat windows (to add smileys an such) are still slightly metallic in appearance, which kind of ruins the effect.
Application Enhancer 1.0
Requires:
Mac OS X 10.1 or newer

is this a typo or will nkuvu have to wait ? :D

The Enhancer will install under 10.1, but the plugins so far available are for 10.2, so it doesn't do too much without Jag.
This looks like a nice general-purpose framework from their documentation. It won't surprise me if several of their haxies get moved to this as plugins in the 10.2 transition.

I am finding that the FruitMenu application enhancer interferes with other 10.2.x applications:
1. On single-processor but not dual processor machines, it will cause OroborOSX, my X-windows manager, to hang on opening, consuming 85% of the CPU and preventing X-windows from being usable. X-windows by itself appears uneffected. Moving the Application Enhancer to an unrecognized file followed by logging out and in again (temporarily) solves the problem.
2. I have found it causes graphics display programs such as PyMol to run extremely slowly. Although I can't see that the Enhancer consumes any significant CPU, it behaves as if it does so when one of these programs runs. The above "fix" again solves the problems.
I really like FruitMenu and would prefer to have it play nicely on OS X 10.2.x.
I wonder how many other slowness problems it might be causing?
I have written several times to www.unsanity.com about this problem and have received no response.
