I recently got a 60GB 5G iPod.

It's almost full now - its reporting around 1Gb free. However now when I copy stuff on to it after copying some of the files my powerbook screen gets a transparent black overlay with a multi-language panel in the centre explaining I must restart my computer.

If I clear some space on the iPod I can copy new stuff on until there is about 1Gb free again.

Anyone else come across this?

(during the reset I also lost my bluetooth as well and had to power off the computer and remove the battery, as described elsewhere on this forum, in order to get it back)

Just so you'll have the correct terminology, what you describe is called a "kernel panic". It shouldn't happen - it is indicative of some hardware or software problem with your Mac.
If you have no problems except when copying to a nearly full iPod, it would seem to be a bug related to the software that handles the iPod.

Besides making sure that you are using the most recent versions of OS X and the iPod software, you might look at the standard troubleshooting suggestions:
