I have an 40G photo ipod a powerbook G4 and about 20 gig of music. My goal is to put my entire itunes library on my ipod but still be able to play it, access it, and not have it on my computer hard drive. When I store my itunes library on the ipod, it adds another 20 gig, plus the 20 gig of songs that are playable. How do I make it so that my ipod can store and play the songs while only using 20 gig? hope that makes sense.

If you change your iPod to manual sync (in iPod prefs when its connectred) you can take music off your computer but still on your iPod. When the iPod is connected, you should be able to play from it through iTunes. One risk with that is if your music isn't backed up. There are programs (many well-reviewed in this forum) to take music from your iPod and put it back on the computer too if you wish.
I hope that answers your question.
