Which HD does a 4G 20GB iPod use?

Does anyone know which drive a 4G 20GB iPod uses? I want to replace my friend's drive since it's dead in his 4G 20GB iPod.

Also, has anyone ever done this? Can i just pop in the new HD and run the "restore" option from the iPod updater program on it? I don't get how the updater program will recognize it as an iPod and allow the "restore" option to work rather than just an external disk.

The hd is pretty easy to pop in and out (its neccesary to replace the battery)
