Where did you hear that?
No - it's not true (as far as I know).
You can transfer any MP3 files to the iPod using iTunes.

Actually, PC users can import those files but Mac users can't. :(

PC users can import Windows Media files to their iPod if those Windows Media files do not have DRM (digital rights management) attached to them. If you are unfortunate enough to have been using Windows Media files from one of those incompatible music download services which uses Microsoft's DRM, you cannot use it on your iPod.

Right - when I said "any MP3 files", I was speaking of MP3 files unencumbered by DRM.
I.e. it doesn't have anything to do with whether the songs have been played using Windows Media Player or not. It has to do with where you got the MP3 files from. Purchased MP3 files usually have DRM.

hayne, I'd say that your initial post was completely correct, since MP3 files are distinct from AAC files, WMA files, WAV files, AIFF files, etc. And MP3 files cannot have DRM.

As you said, you can transfer ANY MP3 files to iTunes, whether or not Microsoft's Media Player had ever played it.

In fact, it is of no relevance whether or not Microsoft's Media Player had ever played a file. The important question is whether a file has an incompatible DRM attached to it. And really almost the only incompatible DRM that most people are likely to run into is Microsoft's proprietary DRM on some Windows Media files.

Okay - thanks for the correction & clarification.
