Memory problem

I'm having problems with my iPod and don't know what to do. All of the music that I had transferred to the iPod disappeared. No files show up on iPod when I'm in iTunes but iTunes is recognizing that the iPod has 13 gigs of memory used up. I don't know what to do. I've tried restoring the iPod but the updater won't recognize the iPod.

Anyone know what I can do?
