how to import songs from hard drive? (Newbie Q...don't laugh at it!!)

Ok--I have music already on my PC hard drive in My Music folder and I don't know how to get them onto my iPod. (30GB) I only know how to get music onto my iPod from CDs that I own. I'd appreciate any help!! And sorry for the idiotic question!!

You have to use iTunes. So open iTunes, drag and drop those audio files and then just plug your ipod in and transfer.

Right....ok...but the thing is, my music automatically transferred to iTunes, which was nice & convenient, but I deselected songs that I didn't want on my iPod but those songs still ended up getting transferred to the iPod anyway. What's the deal with that??

And while I'm here asking dumb questions, I import a CD into my library but I don't know how to get them onto my iPod. iTunes is telling me that my iPod is done updating but my iPod is telling me not to disconnect...

I just got this and don't even download songs to my pc, so how do I import songs from a CD to my ipod?
