View Full Version : Why doesn't voting in a poll bring it to the top?

Some polls are really cool, but don't really require a comment. It's kind of sad that you could have 500 people vote on your pole and still have it get lost down the list. Could we make it so voting in a poll bumps it back to the top of the list?

That's normal forum software behavior.

I knew that, thank you.
Anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to change that behavior so that voting in a poll could keep it near the top. I think we lose track of too many interesting polls because they don't require comments.

Well at least in IPB there is a option for forums to have votes from a poll bump it up like a normal reply would, not sure about vB though...polls might take over the forums though if we enable this feature since some polls may be really popular and thus get bumped up alot more than regular threads...perhaps it'd be best to make a subforum in the coat room forum just for polls and enable this feature (have poll votes bump up the thread just like a normal reply would) so as to not interfere with regular threads :)

Good point, I think I might contend that we really don't see that many polls, so it shouldn't be a big deal. But, if we did that would be a good solution as well. It's still better than the alternative, watching a good poll get buried.

I think we've had this topic come up before and Rob has noted that vBulletin doesn't have the option for votes in polls to update the thread. I can't find a specific reference when searching the board, but I do recall that.
Not sure how a "subforum" would work. We can and do feature a thread at times so that it stays at the top of a forum. Maybe we could do that occasionally with a popular poll.

wow, you mean to say that vbulletin still doesn't support subforums? perhaps a switch to IPB is in order...:p (j/k)

I didn't say VB doesn't support subforums; we've just never done them, to my knowledge. Rob might have more info on the capabilities, here.

My only concern with that option is that it would fall on the moderators to keep the polls updated. And it would just be more work... is vB coming out with an update anytime soon? Maybe they'll change it.
