Maybe you have some insight into this...
A number of my (carbon) applications are installed on the original factory 5400RPM 20GB. Jaguar is installed and running on a second 7200RPM 40GB Drive.
(To do a casual test of a system's speed, I'll often revisit websites that I know use alot of Flash content. By viewing the same content on different machines, I get a basic feel for that system's speed.)
While visiting such a site in IE 5.2.1, ICQ (installed on the 5400RPM drive) beeped for my attention, causing the 5400RPM drive to spin up. Upon reloading the page, I noticed a dramatic slowdown in Explorer's ability to render the Flash content.
The entire system seems to slow down once that happens.
