Ok guys, lets have a poll on which browsers people prefer.

If there's some other browser out there that I missed, just let me know.

There wasn't a room for Other, sorry.

EDIT: I forgot about Shirra and Omniweb. Maybe I could have removed NS and IE, as they really aren't supported anymore...

Shiira.

I didn't vote in your poll because Shiira isn't listed as an option.

Yeah, I forgot about Shiira. Sorry about that. I can't edit polls...

I can, and did. However.. this topic has been beaten quite hard here.. typically between Safari and Firefox. So, for the moment I'll keep it open, but the poll will close in (at most) 90 days.

There's no such thing as "best." There's a scale of better/not as good, but even that depends on your usage style and needs.

This is just 'What browser do you prefer', not 'What browser is the best'

Just shows that most people use whats given to them. In Windows IE would come top, in linux Firefox would come top

Oh, I'm sorry I misread your question:

Indeed. I never see anything other than what I've put on a user's machine as the default. If it's Firefox, that's what they use.

And really, for most people it should be that way. It's the rare person that asks me for a missing browser feature. Recently I set up a new employee with a G5 (former OS9 user, recently Windows user, now I'm taking her back to a Mac), and she asked me how to open multiple windows while doing research. I enabled and showed her how to use tabs, she was wowed. She'd never seen or heard of anything like that. A good reminder for us geeks to get down to the bare basics we take for granted and help users along.

Safari, easily. Opera is nice and so is firefox, but Safari is just easier to use and more efficiently designed. Cheers!

(What the heck is IE doing up there???? :))

Ok, I voted, even though it’s not a qualified opinion -- I haven’t tried that many of the browsers in question.

I’m fairly happy with Safari; never got comfortable with Firefox but use it on occasion; de-installed Internet Explorer on every family member’s computer, forbidding them to use it; have been impressed with Opera but don’t use it actively.

Carlos has a good point. May I suggest someone start a separate thread on "Browser Tips From Advanced Users"? I, for one, would greatly appreciate that.

PS. Oh, if anyone does vote for IE, could they please offer a darned good explanation?

for me its all about firefox. I use OS X, windows xp, and Linux on a regular basis.

In windows Opera and Firefox and the fastest browsers I have ever used

In linux I use Opera, Konquerer, and Firefox

In OS X I use Firefox and Safari

All in all for everyday use, ease of use, customization, extensions, and plug ins I would have to say overall Firefox is the better browser.

I still have to use IE for a few things, but onlyuse it when I have to.

" PS. Oh, if anyone does vote for IE, could they please offer a darned good explanation?"If you are using "Panther", it's the only one I know of that copies tables allowing both layout (rows, columns) and style (colours, etc) to be preserved when pasting. Safari and Shiira only allow one or the other (paste with or without matching style), and Opera, Firefox and Camino only copy plain text (with layout) in the first place. In "Tiger", tables copied from Shiira and Safari can often be pasted, depending on the destination programme. Regardless, of course, I wouldn't use IE as a main browser though.

Shiira is number one for me (lots of features vs Safari on 10.3, draggable tabs vs Safari 10.4). For non-WebKit browsers, FF and Camino are OK, but Opera beats both for speed so it's my main alternate browser.

Firefox is, out of the browsers I have tried, my definite favourite. So far the only thing I don't like all that much is the bookmark manager, as it is rather figety. I uninstalled IE, as I absolutely cannot stand it.

I guess I go against the flow when I say I don't like Safari much at all. I used it for a while, but then quit as soon as I found Firefox. Safari just seems clumsy (though preferable to IE any day!).

All I have to say aboyt Safari is that I can't get it to stop a page while it loads! It always loads, I click stop, it continues loading, and reloads!
