i dropped my ipod today and the harddisk is spoilt. I pryed open the metal casing and took out the crashed HD ( my warranty is over anway.. ). Is there a place where i can get a replacement because i think that this type of thin & sleek HD is very hard to find.:(

almost certainly not [possible to replace the HD]. I believe Toshiba makes the drives; you might try contacting a local Toshiba service center.

1.8" HD (http://www.toshiba.com/taissdd/products/features/MK1003GAL-Over.shtml)

This may be the one in question, they also do 5GB and 20GB.

If you now own a 5 or 10GB ipod, and can replace the HD. Can you upgrade to 20GB with no problems? Keep us posted if it works.

Uh, of course it's too late now but, the iPod warranty was extended to a full year (from 90 days). Then again the Apple warranty doesn't cover drops and such :(. I picked up the CompUSA TAP two year, one-time replacement warranty for $30 like two months after the iPod had been purchased in case of an incident like this.

Also, even if you do find a replacement drive, how you gonna get the PIXO OS on it? I don't imagine that would be an easy task; possibly more daunting than acquiring the drive .

Keep us posted.

There are about 50 sites where you can buy hard drives and all kinds of internal parts for your ipod. For all u who go around saying things about apples warrenty. they could sell a 30 ear warentty but if you broke it or even if there is a dent in the back that has nothing to do with your problem they will say u damaged it so apples warenties are complete BS no mater how u look at it
