I recently upgraded my gen 2 ipod to software ver 1.5 (which included functionality for Audiobooks) and purchased an Audiobook at iTunes.

When I select the book the ipod immediatly jumps from part 1 to part 2 of a two 2 part book and then returns to the main menu. I been through the r's and had the ipod into my local apple store but no success.
anyone have an idea?

Have you scoured the Apple Support forums and technical docs? You may want to give that a quick look. The only thing I can think of is that you may want to delete the audiobook from your ipod, then reset your iPod (if you haven't already), and reload it onto the iPod.

Note: I think i remember hearing something about exporting the audiobook in a different format which may help playback.

Check that apple support site if this forum comes up empty for you.

I have been through the Apple support forum and tech docs (as well as technician at Apple store) The Apple tech reformatted the hard drive and I had to restore / reload everything. I didn't change the extenstion or trying a different format though.

One other post on this forum with the same problem was unresolved (no thread) and the poster didn't respond to my private message.

Playing with the file is whats left it seems

thanks for the reply

You didn't mention this so I have to ask:
Does this audiobook play without problems in iTunes ?
Do you have any friends with iPods that you could try it on?
Did they try the audiobook on a different iPod when you took your iPod and Mac to the Apple store?

Hi,
thanks for the follow-up. The file(s) play fine in itunes. I'll try the audiobook on another ipod soon. I didn't bring my laptop to the apple store as I assumed they would have test audiobooks but they didn't.

If updating to the most recent iPod firmware doesn't cut it, I'd just strip FairPlay restrictions out of the damn thing and stop worrying.

Nonetheless, you should annoy Apple as much as you can about it, after all they use DRM and have to make it work for their paying customers. If you can't get any help otherwise, consider filing a bug at radar.apple.com (free registration required). That will get you human attention at a pretty high level.
