View Full Version : Access faulty partition

I have a G4/533 with 3 partitions. The main one contains OS X (40 GB) and all files I work on. The other ones have OS9 (4GB)and (again) OS X (16GB).

When I tried to install Apple Developer Tool on the 40 GB everything got stuck and nothing but Power Off worked to get the machine up and running again. Problem: it only starts from the 4GB and 16 GB partitions. The main harddisk cannot be accessed any more.

I used cmd-S combo to start this partition in single user mode but it did not respond and booted OS 9 instead. The idea is to make a "fsck" on the problem partition.

Here come the question:
Can I adress the faulty partition from the terminal program of OS X on the 16GB partition?? A Unix geek in the office (he has no idea about Macs) says it is possible.

Any suggestions from your side as to what commands I should use and how likely it will be to solve this problem?

Thanks

If you can mount the disk, you should be able to access it in the Terminal via the Volumes directory.
