View Full Version : Click Wheel Won't Scroll

My iPod (4G, 20GB) started acting wonky the other night... went into pause mode, and then would respond only sporadically. The main problem is that the click wheel won't scroll. The buttons, themselves, seem to respond... but the thing just won't scroll.

I've tried toggling the Hold button. When I do that, it will sporadically scroll, but slowly... and then only a couple of times. There is an audible "click" every time the click wheel DOES scroll... whether it's navigating the menu or adjusting the volume. I've tried toggling the Hold button, and then doing a hard reset. Same result.

I've tried using iPod updater to reinitialize the iPod... now I've got an iPod with no music on it, and it still won't scroll.

While it still had music on it, all tracks played fine in iTunes... so it doesn't sound like a hard drive problem. Any suggestions?

Thats something that can happen over time from wear and tear. The good news however is that there are many shops that either will replace the wheel for you if needed or you can order the part for cheap on the net if your more of a DIY type. Not all dirt can be removed and sometimes its just that the buttons behind the wheel got hit somehow and are simply broken.
