Hello Admins,

It was suggested by a long-time user of this messageboard that I post my recommendation here, instead of in the "Applications" forum, where I had originally posted it several days ago.

I was wondering if anyone has ever written a Konfabulator/Yahoo Widget Engine widget for the MacOSXHints.com forums. Currently, I use the MacOSXHints.com news widget. While some of the news articles are interesting, I would much prefer being able to display specific forums from this messageboard on my desktop, as these would be much more helpful to me than the news items.

Please note that I am interested in a Konfabulator/Yahoo Widget Engine widget, and not a Dashboard widget. I don't even use Dashboard widgets, as I find them too big and bulky, as nice as some of them are.

If such a widget has not been written yet, I would encourage anyone who might be interested in accepting the challenge, to design it so that the end user can determine which forums would appear in his desktop list, as well as how many message titles would appear under each selected forum.

Of course, for such a widget to work properly, the folks behind the MacOSXHints.com forums would have to make sure that they don't change their forum titles, or messageboard layout, all that often.

Ideally, someone directly associated with MacOSXHints.com would probably be the best candidate for writing such a widget, being as they would have a keen interest in making sure that the widget remains updated, and compatible with any changes which may be made to the MacOSXHints.com messageboard.

Thanks a lot!

Firstly, it is better to ask a moderator to move your thread rather than start a new one.

Secondly, what would the widget do that the RSS feeds for the forums do not already do?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have just installed NetNewsWire Lite. I have never really given RSS a good try-out, so now might be a good time. I've added a pile of Mac news sites, and regular news sites, to my subscription list. Using NetNewsWire Lite might be a good alternative to having Yahoo Widget Engine, (which is a bit slow being Java-based), filling up my screen with widgets for individual news sites and forums.

Konfabulator widgets are not Java-based; they are JavaScript-based. The two are not the same.

(This annoying, pedantic post brought to you by me.)
