For not closing some of the more controversial or potentially flaming threads lately. I think it has gone well and nothing really over the top. I appreciate hearing the wide-ranging opinions and thoughts.

Just wanted to chime in that I agree... Discussion is good, so long as things don't get out of hand.

Definitely good that this forum encourages discussion and is very different than the Apple Discussions, where you'd see topics disappearing left and right.

Well, these forums don't actually encourage discussion. The macosxhints forums are primarily (at the 99% level) intended to be help forums. The Coat Room is provided as an outlet so that people aren't tempted to pollute the help forum sections with discussions (as opposed to suggestions for solving the problem at hand).

And as I recall, the Apple forums are explicitly stated as being purely help forums. The threads that get removed are usually ones where people have started to use it as a forum for complaints. Rightly or wrongly, Apple does not provide a forum for complaints.

On the macosxhints forums, while we reserve the right to remove posts or even full threads if we think this is necessary, we will only do this in extreme circumstances. Posts unsuitable for the help forums are moved to the Coat Room. Threads that are getting out of hand (e.g. discussing illegal activities) are usually closed for posting - but left accessible (for readers).

.
A good balance continues to be struck. :)
High content, little chatter and low bs factor.

And almost invariably friendly -- even when discussions get intense. I must admit that I really do appreciate the discussions on the Forum. They’re meaningful, and I’ve often found new perspectives listening to people whom I truly respect. Thanks!

+1

Well, can't just post "+1" because it's too short.
