Hi, i just bought a nexstar for my mac to add more memory for my music and stuff, it plugs in ok and up pops a "new volume", but sadly I cannot drag and drop files into it (copy files into it) and the ownership is set to read only, which is strange as it is a hard drive, it could be read and writable, right!
I have tried the terminal thingy that apple suggests but that didn't work...
Is there anything I can do?!
Thnks

I imagine that your external disk is formated with NTFS. (Check by doing "File/Get Info" on it in Finder.)
OS X currently only supports NTFS as read-only.
If you want a disk that can be used with both OS X and Windows, the best current choice is to use FAT32.
I.e. reformat the disk as FAT32.
Search these forums and the main macosxhints site for extensive discussion of this.
But if it is only for use with the Mac, then you should reformat the disk as HFS+ (Mac OS Extended)

Thank you very much for the quick reply, I am just using my hard-drive for my mac so I will reformat it to HFS+ as you suggested.
Thanks again.
