I need confirmation from those more knowledgeable than I am about the following:

If I import a CD in AIFF format, does that AIFF file get downloaded to my Nano in compressed or non-compressed format?

Here's what I want:
I want an AIFF copy of a CD on my Nano. No compression. Can I do it through iTunes or do I have to do it by making the Nano a hard drive and transferring the file over manually?

THANKS for any help.

I always thought that the format used in iTunes is the one your iPod gets. I don't believe iTunes reformats songs when syncing.

I'm guessing you want to try and have max sound quality or something?
Or is it just for some compatibility reason?

I guess some people really can hear a difference between HQ VBR and AIFF...
I can only tell the difference between if the MP3 bitrate is below 160 and is not VBR encoded with LAME's "-h" (high-quality) and "-V 0"(best VBR, i think)

There's always Apple Lossless format to make the files a little bit smaller without losing quality.
