I just got a 30G video ipod and was informed that i could easily transfer all the music from my dell mp3 player to my ipod without having to go through all my cds re-downloading all my music to my computer first....however after a couple un-successful hours my ipod is still empty. anyone have any suggestions? at one point i got the playlist of my songs to show up in itunes but it wouldn't/counldn't sync to the ipod. i need help! i don't want to return the ipod but i also dont have 40 hours to spend re-downloading hundreds of my cds.

I assume you have a Windows PC and not a Mac?

Hi, I have the exact same problem. I lost all of my data on my hard drive and the Dell tech came to my home to replace it but I lost everything. I'm trying to upload the songs on my Dell mp3 to my computer (PC) so that I can download them to my ipod....help!

This is a Mac forum.. so any help here will be most limited.

Ok, I'll say it: Get a Mac.

Isn't this the "iPod info centre"? ;) Obviously it's Mac centred, but give 'em a break, you can understand how they'd end up here when searching for help.
Getting a Mac isn't likely to help these guys with this issue (though I agree it'll help them overall of course) because I'll guess the Dell MP3 player is only compatible with Windows? Getting a Mac will make thier problem worse won't it?
Guys, are you sure the Dell player does store the files as MP3's? My daughter's Sony player uses it's own format, making it impossible to get the tracks from it onto anything else. Most "normal" MP3 players can be seen in Windows Explorer as a removeable disk, so I'm thinking the Dell isn't "normal"?

Actually, it's the iPod Info Center on MacOSXhints.com, and the problem is really with a Dell mp3 player combined with Windows software. The iPod is the only thing in the mix that appears to function properly.

You're right of course, and I did acknowledge that ("Obviously it's Mac centred").
But I'm not so sure it's that clear that it's the Dell/Windows software that's at fault, unless by Windows software you mean iTunes? The OP said "at one point i got the playlist of my songs to show up in itunes but it wouldn't/counldn't sync to the ipod", which could easily indicate it's Windows iTunes that's the culpret, if only because he/she's maybe trying to use file types that aren't compatible (WMA protected?).
MichelleCena did say the issue was with uploading from the Dell, so you're right there; that can't be an iTunes/iPod issue, but there's nothing in sweetpea48's post to suggest the files aren't already on the PC.
We need more info!!

sweetpea48's post is from January. I think it's safe to assume that one has been decided one way or another by now.
