Ipod Nano wont work

My friend has an IPod Nano and for some reason it wont turn on. The computer doesn't see it but if you put it in the iHome it works and plays like normal. When taken off of the iHome it no longer works or plays music. I've tried the resetting method of holding down the center button and the menu button to no avail. Any other ideas?

Does it play without being in the iHome?

Perhaps the battery is so low that it can only play in the iHome (which is charging it). I would plug it in and leave it to charge all the way up, and then see if you can get the computer to see it.

Nah it doesn't work out of the iHome. It wont charge, it'll only play on the iHome. Anywhere else it wont charge or turn on. Idk what the problem is.
