Is it possible to get iTunes to auto-convert to a higher bitrate than 128k when transferring to a shuffle?
If iTunes does not have such a feature built-in, is there an applescript that accomplishes this? I would like to store songs on my shuffle at 320mp3 or 192 aac.
many thanks in advance

I think it converts to whatever you are set to in your ripping preferences. I could be wrong.

I am using the 2nd gen shuffle and iTunes 7.
If I set the burning/ripping preference to 192, the shuffle's settings window still shows the 'convert higher bitrate to 128 kbps' dialog. Is there a way to change the shuffle's auto-convert preference?
many thanks

There's always Apple Lossless...

I don't have an iPod, so I'm guessing it might be a limitation in the Shuffle?

The auto-convert-to-Shuffle feature doesn't seem to be connected in any way to the ripping prefs. The ripping prefs are for how your song goes from CD to Mac, and is permanent. The auto-convert-to-Shuffle is only an on-the-fly conversion to an iPod.

I don't know of any way to increase the auto convert bitrate. The whole point of the feature is to increase the number of songs, so Apple probably isn't interested in providing a higher bitrate option given the small size of the shuffles. You could go rooting around in iTunes/iPod plist files to see if there is an undocumented preference, but there probably isn't one.
