ipod as external disk for mac and windows

I have one of the ipod photo versions, I don´t what number or anything but it´s fairly old and holds 40 gig. I know that I can use it as an external disk, but only with my mac. My question is how can I make it so that it works like a flash drive or something like that so I can put files on it from my computer (a mac) and use them at school (windows) and vice versa. At the moment I have it set on my computer as enable disk use, but today at school when I tried to put photos on it the windows box wanted me to reformat everything. Could I make a partition or something so that I can use it in all modes?

You would need to reformat it in windows itunes to get a filesystem that can be used by both mac and windows.

I did this with mine and it works great.
