music gone from iPod

I have a 4th generation 20gb. The ipod has worked flawlessly for 2+ years. The weirdest thing happened yesterday. I plugged the ipod in to charge for the ride home. The next morning all my music was gone! 2000+ songs gone. I went home and tried reset the ipod using itunes and redownload. Nothing happened. I took it to the apple store, the non tech guy plugged it into their computer to repair/reset. Nothing. He suggested I make an instore appointment with the tech guy. Unfortunately I did not have the time yesterday. I'll go back soon. Any ideas? The apple guy said he does not know what is wrong with it. By the way, 1 month ago I ordered a longer life battery form a company. I installed it using the tool supplied for splitting the case. Very easy operation. It worked great after that. NOW THIS. ANY IDEAS???????

The mini HD's those iPods have are really delicate and if you take them from one environment to another sometimes they will get some condensation inside... that's what happened to mine. Thank God I had apple care and they fixed it. I have since gotten rid of it for the flash memory nano.

I want to buy a hard drive. Anyone know of a good place. I found them as cheap as $89.00.
