Ipod in endless restart cycle

I just restarted my ipod and the apple shows up for a couple seconds, disappears, shows up again, disappears, over and over and over (so far for about 5-10 mins). I can hear a little dull clicking sound when the apple disappears. Trying to restart it doesn't work. I tried connecting it to the computer, nothing. What can I do?

It is a 20gb, 4th Generation.

how did u restart it? by holding play or by holding center+menu?

By holding down menu+center button. I ended up restoring it and it seems to be functioning now.

Has anybody seen this before? Is it indicative of a major problem?

believe me, the ipod has more flaws and issues than Vista
