Hi,

Does anyone know if any of the cheap ata 100/133 cards on ebay will work in my 450mhz G4 powermac?

I want to fit a bigger hard drive i.e. over 127gb and speed things up a bit and cant really justify spending 100+ bucks on some of the cards I have seen on the internet.

Cheers

Jon

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that there are firmware differences between ATA cards for PCs and ATA cards for Macs. I base this on the fact that ACard, my preferred vendor of ATA cards for Macs, has different versions for Macs and Windows computers.

However, if you want to save money on a card, buy a used Mac-compatible card on ebay. For example, here is a search for Sonnet ATA cards on ebay: ebay search (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R10&satitle=sonnet+PCI+ATA+-eSATA&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search). It currently shows two cards that should meet your needs, for much less than new prices.
