OK, I know I've seen this covered somewhere but can't remember if it was here or MacFixit (Sorry Rob!). I tried to find it but couldn't.

My problem: Sometimes, My connection (Verizon  ADSL in NY area) drops out and if I reconnect, the "internet connect" looks like everything is fine but no program can access the net anymore... Sometimes, I get the same thing when I disconnect my ethernet cable and try to connect it to my iBook. The only way I can get my G4 to see the connection again is to restart...

I'm pretty sure I read some command line somewhere that allows you to restart just the process needed to get a fresh healthy new internet connection without having to reboot. Plus, even if I hadn't, I'm sure it's one of the basic Unix type stuff you can do. But compiling LAME and the Gimp was as far as I went w/ the Terminal... I'm no geek... I could try to figure it out with the man page if only I knew where to start...

Help help help!

I'm not sure about your other problem, but this is a classic.
The reason for this problem is how DHCP-servers act.
When you change machines like that, you need to send a dhcp-release packet to the dhcp-server(on most dhcp-servers that is).
You can read all about this in the rfc for DHCP(I don't have the rfc number handy).

Get a router. It will solve this problem and many others. Additionally, it will give you the added benefits of a NAT firewall and an easy connection between your machines.

Thx Dr. NiKon...

That's at least part of the problem...
But what's rfc? I'm not really good with acronyms... And English is not my 1st language btw <- I know that one! ;)

About the router thing... I'm pretty broke right now... And I just spent quite sometime figure out how to get the sw base station thing working so I can surf in bed w/ my iBook! And Brickhouse seems to be a pretty solid firewall... When I get rich(er), I will though...

Nobody remember this command line I'm talking about?

Mr. X -
A definition (http://www.tuxedo.org/%7Eesr/jargon/html/entry/RFC.html) for RFC.

I believe Dr-NiKoN is speaking about RFC 2131, which I found at http://ns.uoregon.edu/dhcp/rfc2131.txt
