View Full Version : Safari 3.0.2 crash in macosxhints forum

This is probably a Safari problem, but I can't reproduce it
in the MacFixIt or MacNN forums. Dragging a link to the
address bar (the url field at the top) to move directly to
a page in the same tab, will crash Safari 3 in this forum.

Anyone else seeing that? Go ahead, grab the "Hal Itosis"
link on the left into the address bar. (Maybe not a good
example, because that doesn't create a new tab/window
but... what happens?).

Also, your favicon isn't happening (not in bookmarks nor
in the aforementioned address bar).

Weird. Maybe it doesn't "like" php! ;)

As the Mozilla Devs on Bugzilla say it: WFM (Works For Me)

I didn't know you could do that. But it works OK here too.

Okay this is funky, because I tried it 5 or 6 times before posting.
Even rm'ed history.plist and the whole cache folder twice in the
process. It crashed every single time.

I just tried it after reading your replies, and it worked!
Don't know what you all did, but thanks for fixing it. :o

The favicon still doesn't look right, but I guess I'll try
trashing the "icon.db" ...again.

WAIT, it's back.
Try this... go to this page:

http://forums.macosxhints.com/announcement.php?f=23&a=23

and on that page, drag the "iPhone Info Center"
link in grifman's post up to the address bar.

AH-HA!!! :)

Okay, I confess... I have this line in /etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net

...and now it seems the crash only happens when I drag over
the area where the blocked advertisement is supposed to be.

If I drag the link along the edge of the page and avoid that area,
then it works. If anyone complains about this mysterious drag &
crash... see if they are ad-blocking in /etc/hosts. If so, you can
impress them with the "answer/solution".
