Maybe someone can help me out here. My ipods are both not working with my computer.

First Aide Failed: Disk Utility stopped repairing “disk1s3” because the following error was encountered: The underlying task reported failure on exit

This is all new and has happened since I have updated my itunes now both of my ipods will not work on my computer. My current version of iTunes is 7.4.2. I don't think I have plugged in my ipods since 2 updates ago.
Repair disk will not work. No icon shows up for one ipod and tells me this:
For iPod 20gb model M9282LL version 3.1.1 it says:
Verify and Repair disk “disk1s3”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Invalid sibling link
Volume check failed.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

The other ipod 40 gb model M9268LL / 3.1.1 shows up on my desktop but says The iPod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.

My computer is close to full capacity at 18.63 gb with 648.9 mb available running Mac OS extended (journaled) on MAC OS X 10.4.10
500 MHZ powerpc g4 titanium powerbook 768 mb sdram. I can't backup my music on my ipods since they are not working with my computer.
Loosing music is not an option.
Please help!
Thanks,
Sad girl in Utah

Since the 'Repair Disk' function of Disk Utility does not fix the problem, you need a stronger more capable disk repair program. I recommend DiskWarrior http://alsoft.com which usually has no problem at all with invalid sibling links.

HI>>>: If I use this disk warrior will I loose all the music on my ipod? That is what I'm trying to avoid since I do not have all my ipod music saved on my computer. My ipod is playing just fine it just no longer works with my powerbook. I went to the Apple store and they are useless "helpers" and will not even back up the files on my ipod for a repair. If I do restore on the powerbook I loose all my music. Anyways... thanks for the advice, I'll go the route of disck warrior as long as I will not loose my music files... will ipod then work again with my Powerbook? It's curious that both of my ipods stopped working at the same time it seems linked to the itunes update, I'm sure Apple hears a lot about this and does nothing to help on the issue. ;)

Thanks Trevor for the tip, I bought Disk Warrior and fixed both of my ipods without loosing any of my MUSIC!!! The mac dudes at the Genius Bar did not even know how to save my iPod, :p that is without loosing all my music... they also thought that Disk Warrior would not work on ipods but they were WRONG! $100. investment in the software paid off and I'm super happy!!!! I highly suggest if anyone is having these sync issues or the Invalid sibling link
Volume check failed things to buy DiskWarrior and give it a try.
