I'm getting an iPod Touch this November, and I want to know if there is anything to know about it. Any iTouch owners: Are you satisfied with it? Is there any defects with them (Other than the screen flaws)? Can they stand up to being thrown into a pocket without a case?

basically it is a iphone, w/o the phone, even thou the screen is tough. get some kind of case for it, dont sit on the ipod either.

I got one a few days ago; seems to be great. The battery gets used pretty heavily with the WiFi, but it recharges quite rapidly.

You probably do want to get a case, mostly to protect the metal backside from scratches.

I love it, and am learning to program AJAX (using Ruby on Rails) for it. :)

Eh, I've really never cared for the backside. It's gotten beaten up quite severely on every iPod I've owned, so I really don't try too hard to keep it protected. The screen is my main concern. I've heard the screen can stand up to a lot of things, so that was a deciding factor to me.

I'm not concerned about size. My library tops out at 4 GB, and I don't buy new music often, so 8 GB should get me by for quite a while.

One other question, however: Can the iTouch be used like a wifi finder if I'm toting around a laptop, and I need wifi access?

I suppose so, it will display the names of the visible networks in range.

This might be helpful, as another option: :D

It seems I keep thinking up more questions as I go...

What does the iTouch look like if it has no Album artwork for the song that is playing? I know it looks absolutely awesome when there's album artwork, but what happens when there isn't any? Does it still look decent?

EDIT: Just watched the iTouch tour on Apple's website, and I must say, the urge to steal my girlfriend's credit card and max it out buying one of these suckers is killing me.

It looks pretty much like iTunes does, with the placeholder cover.

The only thing I've tried so far and not cared for was the WiFi Music Store, and that's because I manage my iPods manually, and it was not obvious how to transfer a purchased song back into iTunes.

I do think I have three people wanting to buy one after having seen it, which is better than the reaction to the iPhone from people I know.

Note that input devices like the Griffin iTalk and the Apple iPod Camera Connector are not compatible with the Touch, but output devices like the Griffin iTrip work fine.

I don't like most devices with my iPods, so I'm ok in that regard. In my opinion, FM Transmitters aren't worth it because they degrade the audio quality too much for me. The only car device I have is a simple car-lighter iPod charger, which I assume will work for my iTouch. (It's worked for every iPod I've owned, from 4th Gen to nano 2G)

The iTunes WiFi store I'll possibly only use when I'm bored and want to try listening to some new music on the go, and take note of it and download it on a home computer.

And I decided I must have one of these the other day, when I walked into a Costco with my girlfriend, and saw one on display. (It only gave me the "Connect to iTunes" message because it's battery was drained) I have to say, even though I couldn't mess with it, I had to have one. It looked so good.

Costco? Ha!

I had to go through three Apple Stores to find one in stock here. I gather they are selling pretty well, without all the ballyhoo of the iPhone.

Costco has like, three shelves full of the things, and on top of that, they sell there for only about $280, which has me thinking I'll possibly buy there since want to stay around the $300 mark, and with tax it'll probably come in around $310.

Which is to say $10 over my card's limit, so I'm going to have to probably lay down actual bills for it instead of a card.

Does anyone know the price for the Touch at Costco?
