View Full Version : User login timeouts
Is it just me, or does the forum expire my authentication after a very short amount of time -- less than 24 hours? Every time I come back here, I need to re-authenticate.
Is there some place in my user settings where I can say to not log me out?
Also, when I log into the macosxhints.com site, my authentication is not carried over to forums.
Not a huge issue, but annoying.

When you log in, check the "Remember me" box, and make sure your browser is not deleting macosxhints.com cookies.
Yeah, I do select "Remember Me", and my browser, Camino (Firefox tweaked for Mac OS X) does not delete cookies.
I still have to re-authenticate every time I come back.

Does the problem exist with a different browser? If so, does it exist with a different user?
I found the setting for the main site, under "Account Information". I had looked around, mostly in Preferences, and missed that setting before.
Apparently it defaults to 1 day. I changed it to the maximum, which is 1 month.
Still, when I came here to the forums, I had to log in again. I have not yet found a similar setting here.

Yup; the two sites have different user databases, hence there are separate logins.
In the forums login, there should be a little 'remember me' checkbox right next to the name/password fields. At least I just saw it by logging out and back in. You need to let the site plant a cookie to maintain the state after that.
Yes, I do use the "remember me" checkbox. And I don't have camino blocking cookies or anything.. it does remember me briefly, but not very long..
Not a big deal.
