First of all, I want to say that I frequent the OSX Hints forums not just because I have problems that I need help with, but also for "general education" on Mac related topics. For this reason, I read most of the threads on most of the fora and my goal is to work my way through many of the "ancient history" threads as well .
I must say the "New Post" tab and the "Today's Posts" item in the "Quick Links" tab are extremely handy.
However (and there's always a however when one phrases a positive statement like that :)), if one is unable to come to this site for several days, all of the posts except for those of the current day just "disappear" into the bowels of the individual fora, with no way (that I have found, anyway) to read them without going into each individual forum and digging through them, one forum at a time.
Would it be feasible to add a "thread read/unread" flag to each thread for each registered user that persists beyond the "Today's Posts" timeframe, and then add a "Quick Link" that allows a selection of unread threads younger than a parameterizable value of days? What I'm thinking is that the read/unread flag would reset to unread if a post were added since the thread was marked as read, in the same manner as the "Today's Posts" appear to be handled.
I realize that there are zillions of threads and many registered users, but at a conceptual level, it seems relatively simple and straightforward and shouldn't be too costly in terms of storage, either. (Yes, I'm aware of the old saw about theory and practice ;).)
But it sure would make reading the threads/posts older than 1 day much more convenient.
Thanks for your consideration.
Pete
