iPod classic does not sync properly

I recently bought an iPod classic to replace an old iPod. I relied on the old iPod to sync song play counts and podcast new/not new data. My new iPod does not do this - I have to manually mark podcasts as not new when I've listened to them on my iPod, or they'll show up again marked as new. I'm running Leopard (10.5.1) on a MacBook Pro, with the latest version of iTunes.

I had this same problem when I got my ipod classic.

here is the solution:
when you plug your ipod into the computer using the usb cable,
in the itunes menu, click on iPod under Devices
click on the podcasts tab
change the setting to sync "all" podcasts instead of just "all unplayed"
