First Gen. I-POD 20 GB skipping and gets stuck

My daughter has a first gen. 20GB I-POD. Lately it has started to skip or get stuck playing her songs.

Is it worth getting fixed or serviced?

The battery still takes a full complete charge.

FIRST Gen? As in scroll (rotating) wheel, raised pushbuttons and full-size firewire port? Made 2001-2003?? (and not in 20Gb but the nearly identical 2G was)

The hardware could be getting flakey, but have you tried a reformat/restore just on general principle?
