is Jailbreaking an iPod touch a good idea? If so, what does it add?

Jailbreaking gives you access to a large number of programs that Apple does not provide.

On the downside, you should not expect help from Apple if you do something wrong in the process--you're doing something that Apple does not support, and you need to take the responsibility that is inherent in that. Also, the third party programs that you can run *might* cause some instability on your iPod Touch. Again, this instability will NOT be Apple's fault, and they will not give you support if that happens.

The decision regarding whether or not the benefits are worth more to you than the potential negative consequences is up to you.
