I have searched unsuccessfully and tried using the info I found to do this. I have an 80gb iPod that I would like to add several movies to without adding them to my iTunes library due to disc space. I have set the iPod to manually sync, and set it up for disc usage, and then went into Finder (I'm on a Mac), copied the .m4v files over to the iPod successfully, but when I disconnect the device, the movies don't show up in the video or movie catagory through the menus. According to the disc usage meter in iTunes, they are using space, and I can see them via the Finder, but how do I get the iPod to actually recognize them so they can be viewed on it?
What am I doing wrong here?

The iPod software is version 1, it's a 80gb video model, and I'm using the latest iTunes software on my Mac.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Soulwar,
Thanks for the link - I've looked through all of it, but I know these movie files are all encoded correctly, so that shouldn't be the problem. Do you think the software version on the iPod being older might be the problem? It's version 1.0, and I've not updated it because it was formatted on a PC, and I'm a Mac user, and don't have enough spare room on the one PC hard drive to update iTunes and the iPod software.
Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Updating could be the problem. I have friends that have put full DVD movies on their iPod, but it was thru iTunes or Quicktime. Is it possible to make room on your drive by backing up to a cd or DVD just to update? Then you could always transfer the files back.
I hope this helps...
