x11 Forum?

Is it time? I know this has been discussed before, but with Apple now 'officially' supporting x11, it may be a good time to add a forum. If OS X Server gets its own category, I think x11 deserves one too.

I think it would be less "messy" if fink, gnome, xfree86, and x11 threads could be found in a central location.

Thoughts?

It could be fairly simple.
Change "UNIX - Newcomers" to "UNIX" and change "UNIX - General" to "X11".
Then, have merv go through and move every unix thread out of "UNIX - General" (which is now "X11"), leaving only fink, x11, and xfree86 stuff.

How about just making a whole new section? Then merv won't have to go through every post. :)

I think X11 questions are sure to be on the upswing, only it seems the answer to many (most) of them involve some knowledge of Unix. Still, I think it might be a good idea for a separate forum. In fact, it's got my vote.

We can have a mod convention and see if we want to do this.

Now seriously, I think it's a good idea by AKcrab, to consolidate all Fink and Apple X11 in one forum. I would volunteer to move all the new threads on Fink, Apple X11 to a new home.

Two tidbits here ... first, the UNIX X11 forum is now active, and second, welcome to Sao as our newest moderator. His first assignment, of course, will be in the X11 forum.

can we mods/admins concur that no threads really need moving for this new forum?

that is, i think the state of the forums as it exists is fine and if we start this thread parse business, something nasty might happen.

i just don't think it would be productive to try and parse the current forums.

Thanks, this is a nice addition to the fora.

I'm sure I will get a lot more out of OS X now that X11 is generating more interest.
