So I built this thing in Cinema 4D mainly because I am not the kind of person who can build things without 3D software, but the guys over at TouchMods have inspired me to to make something that would be more ergonomic and "phone like" instead of relying on:

A. a mic that is only secured by the dock connection and
B. earbuds.

Would love to hear what people think.

I really like the idea of iPod Touch + Skype + This thing, that's for sure :). If it will work, it would definitely be high on my list of reasons to buy an iPod Touch. Can you make one with a video camera as well? That way I can do video chat from anywhere that has a wifi connection.

My only concern is that Skype won't run all that well with the iPhone. Do you know if it will work well or not?

OH, and as commentary on the general idea (i.e., not using the strength of the dock connector to hold the Mic). I like the idea you have, but would offer a couple suggestions. One, make it a bit thinner on the sides. Two, Make it more rounded on the top and bottom.

But, I do like how secure that device looks, I won't have to worry about hurting the dock or having the mic fall off.

Beautiful presentation! :)

Personally I would love to see the iPod Touch work with any VoIP. I don’t use Skype, but I do have a VoIP subscription that allows me unlimited calls anywhere in Europe, to North America, and some additional countries.

If I could make free VoIP calls (non-Skype) from an iPod Touch, from wherever I can connect to a wireless network, that would be brilliant! In fact, this idea tempts far more than the iPhone.

Thanks for sharing!

Since many tech-heads have thrown their hat in the ring, we have come to realize that a Simple Mic that you can Buy at Walmart has the capacity to provide Voice-In. The Audio-out is just head phones. All this is (or could be) is a plastic mold that holds these two things in one device. I most definitely think it could work.

Man I would love too. I think I saw somewhere that a guy figured out a "phycsical hack" for the ipone that involved mirrors, but other than that I don't think I have spotted anything that is able to connect a working mini video camera. I'm sure if Samsung buys after market cameras for their phones, why wouldn't we be able to get them ourselves from the same if not similar provider.

My only concern is that Skype won't run all that well with the iPhone. Do you know if it will work well or not?
As for a video Chat, that is still a good question. I saw this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DETwd5iFzT8) and then all possibilities started swirling in my head

I agree. I managed to throw this together in about two hours. It was kinda designing itself in my head. But It would be entirely possible. I was kinda thinking about that Rubber bumper that you could put around your Iphone so as to protect it when it falls. But Thinner would make it nicer and for that matter a bit more fragile. Thanks

As for the Anything other than Skype and SIP-Voip from Touchmods.net (http://www.touchmods.net) I don't know what other hacks are out there. I will do a little homework and find out what other proxies exist for Voip on iPhone. (since iPhone is the Base model we are working with). And thanks for the Kind Remarks.
