I downloaded Xfree86 4.2.0 from this url 'http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/xfree86.html'
Everyone on this board writes about version 4.2.3. Where can I find an updater to get up to 4.2.3?
spragueg,
Are you trying to install Apple X11 (includes XFree86)?
or you just want a XFree86 upgrade?

Apple X11 is crap. I cannot get it to compile anything. I tried all the suggestions listed here in the forums but none seem to work. fink won't recognize the Apple X11 install even with the SDK. So I'm going back to Xfree86 which worked fine in the past. However I cannot seem to find the most recent version.
If you have Fink installed you could install:
xfree86-base-4.2.1.1-4 or xfree86-rootless-4.2.1.1-4
Otherwise you could download XFree86 4.2.1.1 from here:

Yeah, I just actually read the readme in the installer and got te updates from the xonx site.
Thanks,

To get fink and apple x11.app to play together, do the following:
fink selfupdate-cvs
fink install system-xfree86
That version will recognize Apple x11. Also as of today there is an additional fix for Apple x11 libraries on the fink home page.

The script was first posted by Ben Hines to the fink-devel list on 15 Jan 2003.
